Who Can Have LASIK Surgery?
To find out if you are a candidate for LASIK, contact us to make your FREE consultation appointment. At this first appointment our LASIK consultant will provide answers to any questions you may have regarding eligibility, payment, or the surgery itself.
We perform prequalification testing during which we will look at:
- pupil size
- cornea shape and thickness
- vision deficits
- overall eye health
At this time, we will discuss your results and the best way to proceed according to your lifestyle.
Your Preop Exam
A doctor will evaluate your current vision and carefully measure your eyes. This ensures that the specifications used during your surgery are as exact and up to date as possible. We will also gather a thorough patient history.
At this time feel free to ask your doctor any questions or raise any concerns you may have as we strive to create as much comfort and confidence as possible.
If you are an ideal candidate for LASIK surgery, at this time we wil schedule your surgery and your doctor will provide you with preop instructions.
The Surgery
The LASIK procedure is a refractive surgery which reshapes the cornea, allowing light to be focused onto your retina, resulting in clearer vision. We use the VISX Star 4 laser with iris registration. This laser also has auto-tracker which means if your eye moves a tiny bit the laser moves with you. As a patient you just can not do anything wrong.
Most people don’t realize that the surgery itself is one of the shortest parts of your experience with us. LASIK eye surgery only takes about 10 minutes for both eyes.
When the procedure is over Dr Utnehmer checks your cornea and applies a clear protective shield over each eye that you wear home. Then it is just go home and relax.
After Surgery
The next day you will come in to see us for a quick check up where we will evaluate the immediate results. Your vision will continue to improve over the next few days. Most people are back to work or school in as little as 24 hours. For the next year we will provide you with excellent and attentive follow up care to assure the best vision possible.
